The Regulatory Affairs Committee is noticing the entire IEP membership inviting participation by all the commpanies interested in property tax matters. Last week, Controller Connell indicated an interest in shifting the jurisdiction over property tax assessment applied to electric generators from the local level to the State Board of Equalization (SBE). IEP engaged in this matter in 1998/1999. Attached is a brief summary memo of the key issues at that time. At that time, IEP successfully argued for retaining jurisdictional authority at the local level. The SBE may take this issue up at its June 20, 2001 meeting. The SBE is comprised of five voting members. The membership is divided 3:2 between democrats and republicans. The initial meeting of the Subcommittee will be a conference call scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (PST) on Thursday, May 31. During this meeting, we will be discussing policy positions and/or statements that IEP may wish to take, as well as any tactical matters to be addressed at this time.
