NYMEX: Crude to open higher on position squaring
NYMEX February crude oil is called to open 30 cts higher at $18.27/bbl Friday.
March Brent is called to open 24 cts higher at $18.66/bbl. February heating oil
is called to open 85 pts higher at 52.30 cts/gal and February unleaded gasoline
is called to open 74 pts higher at 54.35 cts/gal.

IPE Brent Focus: Firm on pre-weekend short-covering
IPE Brent futures were firm Friday after gapping up on early electronic trade.
By 1141 GMT, the March front month contract was trading at $18.70/bbl, up
29cts/bbl on Thursday's settle.

OIL:
2001 saw smallest rise in demand since 1985: IEA
The International Energy Agency Friday said 2001 had witnessed the smallest
increase in oil demand since 1985, but forecast a recovery in 2002 on the back
of an expected pick-up in the US economy.

NATURAL GAS:
Australia shortlisted for China's first LNG supply
Australia's North West Shelf project has been shortlisted by the Joint Executive
Office of the Guangdong LNG Project to negotiate a long-term contract for the
supply of LNG to the first receiving terminal to be built in China, at
Chengtaojiao, near Shenzhen in the south-east of the country, the NWS Project's
marketing agent, Australia LNG said Friday.

PETROCHEMICALS:
Japan's PVC demand to continue downward trend in 2002
Japan's domestic PVC consumption would decline further in 2002 to below the
level of 1,500,000mt although more PVC would be exported to China, Madoka
Tashiro, the CEO of Tosho Corp, and Kaneka Corp CEO Masatoshi Takeda said Friday
at a monthly press conference held by Japan's Vinyl Environmental Council.

White House denies special Enron link to energy plan
Enron, despite any political or personal connections to the Bush administration,
had no special influence in the formation of the national energy plan proposed
last year, the White House insisted Thursday.

Russian minister rules out nuclear privatization
Russia has no plans to privatize the generating company being formed on the
basis of state-owned nuclear concern Rosenergoatom, Russian Atomic Energy
Minister Alexander Rumyantsev said Friday, according to an Interfax report.

Indiana Senator to introduce clean-coal bill
Indiana State Senator Tom Weatherwax is preparing to introduce far-reaching
legislation to promote clean coal technology ?for utilities and other
[developers] who want to generate electricity? by providing them with fast-track
regulatory approval and allowing them to earn a higher rate of return on their
