NYMEX: Crude to open higher, eye on product expiration
NYMEX March crude oil is called to open 8 cts higher at $19.16/bbl Thursday.
March Brent is called to open 18 cts higher at $18.95/bbl. February heating oil
is called to open 34 pts higher at 51.25 cts/gal and February unleaded gasoline
is called to open 34 pts higher at 55.64 cts/gal.

IPE Brent Focus: IPE Brent crude recovers from bearish stock statistics
At 1035 GMT front-month March had climbed 20 cts higher than the previous day's
settlement to trade at $18.99/bbl. April futures stood 16 cts higher at
$19.18/bbl.

Sinopec exceeds 2001 retrenchment goal of 27,000 staff
China's oil group Sinopec Corp exceeded its retrenchment target of 27,000
employees in 2001 in an effort to improve efficiency and profitability, a

NATURAL GAS:
Algeria voices fears over impact of EU gas directive
Algerian energy minister Chakib Khelil Wednesday expressed fears that
legislation to liberalize the European Union gas market could harm gas suppliers
and lead to market instability by encouraging a move away from long-term

PETROCHEMICALS:
US ethylene CP talks continue, sellers expect drop
The US ethylene contract negotiations continue as the month draws to a close,
but sellers Wednesday indicated they expected the result to be a 1 ct/lb drop.
"I think you'll see a drop of a penny for January," one producer source said,
"Then, no more drops unless costs drop."
