Monday's=20 announcement of a $24.5 million private stock placement and=20 March's hiring of Williams-Sonoma's (NYSE: WSM) president have=20 given some optimism to investors that the company can=20 restructure and turn its merchandise strategy around.=20 Buzzed. Wireless communication signal processor maker Sawtek=20 (Nasdaq: SAWS) warned investors to expect lower earnings for the=20 quarter ending June 30. The company forecasts EPS of $0.06 to=20 $0.08, off a cliff from Street estimates of $0.18. Shares traded=20 as low as $25.80 after hours, following a $28.25 regular-hours close. EarningsSoft. Business management software maker J.D. Edwards &=20 Co. (Nasdaq: JDEC) reported Q2 EPS excluding onetime charges of=20 $0.03, versus analysts' consensus of $0.04 and sharply off from=20 $0.09 a year ago. Revenue dropped to $216.7 million from $231=20 million last year, with license revenue down to $62.3 million=20 from $81.7 million. Defense=20 contractor Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) moved in with a $67.50 a=20 share, $2.1 billion hostile takeover bid for Newport News=20 Shipbuilding (NYSE: NNS), hoping to thwart a merger agreement=20 between Newport News and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
