What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as=20 printed in the Congressional Record:=20 < <<< "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the=20 < <<< Americans as the most generous and possibly the least=20 < <<< appreciated people on all the earth.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and=20 < <<< Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the=20 < <<< Americans who poured in billions of dollars and=20 < <<< forgave other billions in debts. None of these=20 < <<< countries is today paying even the interest on its=20 < <<< remaining debts to the United States.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956,=20 < <<< it was the Americans who propped it up, and their=20 < <<< reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets=20 < <<< of Paris. I was there. I saw it.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the=20 < <<< United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59=20 < <<< American communities were flattened by tornadoes.=20 < <<< Nobody helped.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped=20 < <<< billions of dollars! into discouraged countries. Now=20 < <<< newspapers in those countries are writing about the=20 < <<< decadent, warmongering Americans.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< I'd like to see just one of those countries that=20 < <<< is gloating over the erosion of the United States=20 < <<< dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country=20 < <<< in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo=20 < <<< Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?=20 < <<< If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the=20 < <<< International lines except Russia fly American Planes?=20 < <<<=20 < <<< Why does no other land on earth even consider putting=20 < <<< a man or woman on the moon? It is nice that=20 < <<< one man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the=20 < <<< world would realize it. We are always blamed for=20 < <<< everything and never even get a thank you for the=20 < <<< things we do.=20 < <<<=20 < <<< I would hope that each of you would send this to=20 < <<< as many people as you can and emphasize that they=20 < <<< should send it to as many of their friends until this=20 < <<< letter is sent to every person on the web.
