Illinois Power contributes more than 70% of Illinovas sales -- generating
and selling electric energy and transporting and selling natural gas. Coal
fuels most of its electricity generation. Illinova Generating invests in
energy projects worldwide. Illinova Energy Partners, an Illinova subsidiary,
brokers, markets, and sells gas, electric power, and energy-related
services. Another subsidiary provides insurance for Illinova and its other
businesses. Illinois Power and eight other firms that own power transmission
facilities are forming an independent system operator group to prepare for
wholesale power transmission by deregulated utilities.
